Artist's Description

Traditionally the flute is used in courtship ceremonies. Legend has it that it was a gift form a woodpecker given to a young Indian warrior who was in love with a maiden who took little notice of him. In a dream the woodpecker teaches the young man how to fashion the flute and how to play it. He return to the tribe and wins the heart of the maiden.

Award winning Artist, Geraldine Arata is a native San Franciscan with a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree from San Francisco State University, and a Master of Fine Art degree from the Academy of Art University San Francisco. She and her husband, John Pruett, owned and operated Arata Fine Art Gallery, 450 Columbus Ave., San Francisco, . Among other locations Arata has had gallery representation, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Francisco and Truckee , California.
