About Geraldine Arata
Award winning Artist, Geraldine Arata is a native San Franciscan with a Bachelors of Fine Art Degree from San Francisco State University, and a Master of Fine Art degree from the Academy of Art University San Francisco. She and her husband, John Pruett, owned and operated Arata Fine Art Gallery, 450 Columbus Ave., San Francisco, . Among other locations Arata has had gallery representation, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and San Francisco and Truckee , California. And owns a Gallery in Benicia, California Arata has participated in several fundraisers, including the Joe Di Maggio’s Playground Fundraiser and the San Francisco Giants Wives Auction. In 2015, Arata, participated in the Vacaville Museum Fundraiser “ We Know Jack”. Her rabbit, “Jack Lapin”, won 2nd place for people’s choice and sold for $6900, the highest price of the 25 rabbits auctioned off. Arata has collectors from coast to coast. Amongst the numerous collectors of Arata’s art is is Owner and Chef ,Andrea Froncillo of Bobo’s Restaurant, San Francisco. Andrea owns 13 works of Arata’s displayed throughout his establishment. A favorite piece is “ Defiance” located in the lounge area. Which serval patrons have offered to purchase from Andrea, one offing was $10,000. Which Andrea refused. Other patrons include the owners of Original Joe’s, Tony’s Pizza, and Sotto Mare of North Beach. Arata is classically trained. Her medium of choice is oil paints on canvas . Her favorite subject matter is the portrait or figure. Arata has a strong connection to New Orleans and her figures are often in mystical and carnival settings. Arata’s first love is fine art, but she also has a passion for the decorative arts and crafts. Her new body of works is a marriage of the two genres. The figures are classically executed in oils, but enhanced with mixed medias, including molding pastes and foils. Arata has had the privilege to have studied with and along side world renowned Artists such as William Maughan, Zhaoming Wu, Warren Chang, Kevin Moore, Tomutsu Takishima, Mark Tennant, Dean Larson ,Morgan Weistling, Johnny Lilliedalh, Jeremy Mann, Greg Gandy, and Pamala Hawkes.
